“The English Riviera” Road Motor Outing 9th – 11th June 2023
An early summer weekend in Glorious Devon and Cornwall – this year it’s trains and more trains standard gauge, miniature and model – static and in operation – GWR and industrial. We visit all the premier steam lines of the south west peninsula and also some more obscure railway attractions to be found amongst the sun-kissed palm trees (OK - I’ve been reading too much tourist literature).
Departing North Bristol at a civilised time on Friday morning we head for Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life mainly to view GWR locomotive No. 1442 and associated local railway exhibits. We then head down to Torbay for a round trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway and conclude the day in the Plymouth area with a stay in Premier Inn or Travelodge accommodation.
On Saturday we visit Cornwall’s premier railway The Bodmin and Wenford for trips from Bodmin General to Boscarne Junction & Bodmin Parkway. We also travel on the Lappa Valley – where we ride on a 15in gauge steam train along part of the old GWR Newquay-Chacewater line, to visit the 10 ¼ & 7 ¼ gauge miniature railways. We will be staying in Premier Inn or Travelodge accommodation in West Cornwall. The evening will feature the traditional Pub-Meal outing.
On Sunday we ride on two lesser known railways – the Helston Railway and Plym Valley Railway before visiting the long-established South Devon Railway and returning to Bristol mid-evening.
The fares, which include all road motor and train travel and museum entrances as above, two nights hotel accommodation (double en-suite room for single occupancy) but excluding ALL meals are –
Adult £240.00 (Non-members supplement £10.00)
